DePuy Orthopaedics manufactured both ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System which were sold not only in the United States but in other countries as well. Ninety-three thousand units of these metal-on-metal hip replacement devices were sold internationally and patients who have been severely affected by their defects are constantly looking for better ways to file their DePuy lawsuits that would help them increase their chances of gaining compensation from the company.
Johnson & Johnson, DePuy’s parent company, might be an American company but it is still possible that affected recipients who do not reside in the United States can file charges against the company. Each country has laws that are unique to their own, so you must make sure you speak first with a lawyer from where you are and ask for legal options you can take.
Below are countries who have filed individual lawsuits or have joined class action suits in the United States.
Canada. At least three class action lawsuits have been filed in Canada, and they include several dozen members from multiple provinces. Individual suits may be filed in the future as well.
United Kingdom. As in Canada, 78 people in the UK have joined together to form one class action lawsuit against DePuy. That’s only the tip of the iceberg as there are approximately 10,000 people from UK who have been affected by the recall.
Australia. One Australian citizen joined an American class action suit. The DePuy products were first recalled in Australia in 2007.
Ireland. Although no lawsuits from Ireland have been filed as of now, there were reportedly 400 Irish recipients of the ASR implants and require a revision surgery. They have the option to file individual lawsuits or join a class action suit.
